Tricks and Treats for Reading and Math

Livingston Elementary invites all families to our Annual Reading and Math Family Night where your child’s teacher will model grade-level-specific and engaging reading and math strategies that you can use to practice with your child at home.
K-1st Reading- Model for parents identifying sight words and unknown vocabulary words through reading passages. Math– model how to compose & decompose numbers, games to use at home or in the car and how to complete word problems using the school-wide ROPES strategy.
2nd-3rd Reading- Model for parents using the unravvel strategy to practice reading skills and model how to help identify textual evidence in reading passages. Math- Model how to complete word problems using the school-wide ROPES strategy and addition and subtraction computation skills using playing cards.
4th-5th Reading- Model for parents how to use the unravvel strategy; how to help your child identify textual evidence in reading passages. Demonstrate how to use this skill at home with magazines, newspapers, and student’s library books. Math- Model how to complete word problems using the school-wide ROPES strategy. Create flashcards for multiplication and division.
